10/16 - Busy Couple of Weeks

OThe last two weeks have been a little crazy in the Trost household. Between work, doctor visits, dentist visits, new furnace/air conditioner, still no Tues/Thurs nurse, things have been a little hectic.

Let's start with what's new; Leo has vomited twice in the past week which he really should not be able to do without a lot of effort. The first time was last Thursday when Kate and Leo were at therapy. Unfortunately, I was over an hour away doing college recruiting so Kate and to handle the situation all by herself. The second time was this past Tuesday. After a trip to Peoria to meet with Genetics, we got back to Bloomington and he did it again in the parking lot where we work. However, this time, he had trouble keeping his stats up so after a call to his surgeon, we made the trip back to Peoria so they could check him out. The good news is that Leo never aspirated any of the vomit into his lungs. We are still not sure why he had pauses in his breathing afterwards. Leo's surgeon didn't think we needed to take any immediate action. We need to go back in a couple weeks for an upper GI study to see what is going on with the band they placed around his stomach when he got the feeding tube.

Sammie and Leo both had their wellness exams and both went well. On the way to take Sammie and Leo to visit their pediatrician (they see the same doctor), I thought something felt strange. That is when I realized that it was the first time that we had all been together as a family in the same vehicle. Hard to believe it took 11 months just for that. It's the little thing like this that you don't really appreciate until you have a situation like ours.

As far as Audiology goes, Leo is scheduled to have another hearing test at the end of this month. We are frustrated about another hearing test since we have seen this before where you switch to a new doctor or specialist and they want to redo every previous test.

Sammie has her first ever dentist appointment this week- no cavities!

We are expecting our new Tues/Thurs nurse to start training on Tuesday next week so hopefully that works out. It usually takes about 3-4 days to get a new nurse trained before we feel comfortable leaving them alone with Leo.
