Our weekend started on Friday with Sammie and me headed to Hannibal MO with our friends for our first camping trip in our new camper. Even though the weekend forecast called for rain, it didn't stop us from being excited to camp and spend time with our friends. We did a lot in our trip, played around the campsite and playground, toured caves, walked to the top of a light house, went to a toy train museum, visited a fun park, and of course - the fun camping things like roast marshmallows, grill out, and eat lots of snacks.
Heath and Paul, thanks for a great trip. I'm impressed for what 3 guys and 3 kids under the age of 4 could do in a weekend!
Now for the Adventures in Nursing - It never fails that every time I leave for an overnight trip, something happens with Leo. This time it wasn't Leo but his nurse. Our night nurse called Saturday evening to let Kate know that she had shingles and wouldn't be able to work and of course, our other night nurse wasn't available which meant we had two options (1) We leave our trip early or (2) Kate stays up all night with Leo. Thanks to my incredible brother, he gave us option (3) which was He and Kate would split the night so that I wouldn't have to come back early from our trip. A huge thanks to Dave for allowing us and our kids to keep having fun.
And thanks to Kate, not only did she had to take care of Leo all weekend, but she had to stay up half the night on Saturday with Dave and again on Sunday with me because the same nurse can't work again until Thursday. Fortunately we had our other night nurse last night so we were both able to get some sleep. I felt terrible for not being home to help but like Kate always does, she reminded me that we just have to power through these types of situations so that we aren't confined to our house and pass up great opportunities like this to spend time with friends and create special memories, especially for Sammie.
