So you might be wondering, why I am writing a blog post about my brother? Well a couple reasons. First, Leo's middle name is David, named of course after his uncle David. Second, having a strong support system is the only way to cope with the challenges of caring for a child with special needs. And Dave is at the heart of our support system.
This is not to take away from all the wonderful friends and family that we have who help us every single day, but instead, recognize and thank my brother for what he does for us. Besides Kate and myself, Dave is the only other approved care giver for Leo. He spent countless hours training at the hospital with us so Leo could come home. Learning how to do Leo's care, knowing how to respond to emergency situations, taking care of Leo and Sammie, and more takes up a significant amount of Dave's time. He has split night shifts with us so we could sleep when we didnt have nursing and watches Leo so that Kate and I can spend time together with Sammie outside of the house. There are countless examples I could provide of how he helps us. We can't thank Dave enough for what he has done for our family. I couldn't ask for a better brother and friend.
We love you Dave and we can't thank you enough for everything you do for us. We hope you have a good birthday, no one deserves it more than you.

Way to go Uncle Dave! support systems are so important, as well as loving family members! Enjoy your birthday!
