We are keeping Leo's birthday celebration very low key. Mom is cooking supper tonight for just us, Uncle Dave and my Dad. Part of me feels guilty for not having the same type of Birthday celebration we have for Sammie, but that would not be fun for Leo. Even when Sammie was one year old she enjoyed a house full of people, gifts and sweets. Leo does not like to be held and he normally cries when we take him out of his room with a house full of people. Hopefully Leo gets some joy out of his day. Sammie picked him out a few new visual stimulation toys and we are giving him a lick of chocolate frosting.
Hopefully Leo's next year of life will be filled with developmental milestones that help him enjoy the little things in life.
Leo's breathing seems to be back to baseline, but he is still on the ventilator 22 hours per day. We are slowly weaning him off. His eye is slowly getting better. We are headed to Peoria Friday for another eye check-up and a routine neurology appointment. Tomorrow we are going back to Champain for Leo's hearing test. Hopefully Leo's birthday gift will be the ability to hear....send him some prayers for his birthday.
Leo is a sweetie and we just want to pick him up and hug and cuddle him. He certainly has given us lessons of love and gratitude. Leo was given two courageous, steadfast, and always willing to learn parents. Thank you to all of the faithful family, friends, and care givers who have so willingly helped - you are a present!
