Leo's blood levels have been all over the place the last few days and trends on the side of being too thin. Today, the hemotologist told Kate that Leo's inability to absorb and process the drug lovenox (blood thinner) is an indication of kidney failure. However, he then said Leo's kidneys seem to be doing fine according to all the other tests he has had done. I think it is a little ridiculous that this he threw this out there and scared us. The attending doctor didn't think anything was wrong with Leo's kidneys as we would have seen other symptoms. Leo was supposed to have another ultrasound tomorrow but the attending doctor had it done today to see if the blood clot in Leo's leg had disolved itself. If it did, we could take Leo off the blood thinner and not mess with it anymore. Thank God, the the artery in his leg is back to normal so Leo is officially off blood thinners!
Leo is now up to 9 hour ventilator weans and continues to do well. Hopefully that trend continues. Uncle Dave and Helen joined me again for training today. They both continue to do great. Even though it taking a while, we get one step closer everyday to getting home.
Woo hoo!! 100% breastmilk, no blood thinners, vent weaning, and most importantly - he can be held by his parents and loved ones. Leo is rocking! You guys are handling the rollercoaster so well. I'm sure it doesn't feel like it at times but wow, you have several different rollercoasters going on simultaneously and you are handling it with grace. Continuing prayers for you all. I can't wait for my turn to hold him :)
