3/5 - Sick Again

This week is the first of the month so we got a new resident again. She thought he sounded junkie and had too much secretions so she ordered a test on the secretions and chest X-ray . The x- ray looked good. The labs said he has the same bacteria infection he had the last two times they did the test. Last night the doctor said she didn't want to treat it because it could just be cultured in him and not really causing issues. A different doctor today said we absolutely need to treat it and he is back on antibiotics. Ugh!  I don't know what the right answer is!! I did my first Trach change last night . This meant pulling the Trach out of Leo's throat and sticking a new one in. It took us about 20 minutes to go through all the steps. If there is an emergency and Leo plugs his Trach we have to do that process in 30 seconds! Again...ugh!  Leo progressed up to 4 hour cpap trials today so he is on the lower setting 1/3 of the time. The doctor tried to stop the trials because of the bacteria. I nicely told her that was stupid. Why stop his progress for bacteria that isn't causing symptoms? She agreed to let him keep progressing.

Tonight Sammie told me she misses Leo. We all miss each other. Here is another one of Amy's pics :)
