Thursday morning I was supposed to take Leo to Easter Seals for a speech evaluation. They called me Wednesday and offered to come to our house since the forecast was below zero. Win for us! The therapist was really nice and although her title was speech therapist, she specialized in infant feeding. She started by taking Leo's life history and then proceeded to evaluate his ability to suck and facial responses. He still keeps his tongue on the roof of his mouth but she said it was encouraging that he does suck once his tongue is down. She said she thinks therapy will continue to help, but she will likely only see us once a month while he is small. She will give us the tools necessary to do the daily therapy and then just evaluate him for progress. We have been doing the exercises we learned in the NICU at home. Next Thursday we go to Easter Seals for PT and OT and will then have a meeting with all the therapist and our case worker to determine a care plan for Leo.
Every therapist/nurse that comes to our house comments on Sammie's play area. The speech therapist said its really nice your daughter has such a fun realistic play area with a weird look on her face.....I'm pretty sure it is their way of saying your daughter is spoiled and taking over your living room! O'well we have fun. Leo got a huge gift today (the box was literally too big for me to carry). My cousin Megan sent Leo all of her son's 12mo clothes. They are awesome and he will be a cute little man next fall/winter.
This is Sammie's kitchen after a hard day of playing and some cuddle time with brother!
