1/7 - PICU Day 2

Today we concluded we ended up in the hospital because the neonatologist thought his oxygen desaturations were too frequent and too low. We were also told although this is not normal, there is no evidece that these short desats cause any damage. The fear is that they will worsen or lead to one bad episode he cannot recover from. The doctor here referred us to a Pediatric Pulmonologist which is a doctor specializing in lung care. We saw that doctor this evening. He said if we don't have any bad episodes overnight we can go home tomorrow. He is also going to give us more "tools" to help treat Leo's breathing at home when he seems to be having issues. He also wants Leo to have a sleep study at the hospital to check for seizures and true episodes of non breathing as opposed to just shallow breathing. The Pulmonologist was just squeezing us in so we didn't get to talk to him in depth. Basically, I feel like there was poor communication overall about why we needed to come here and we are not getting much out of our two day stay here. However, I did like the Pulmonologist and he seems like a good guy to have on Leo's doctor list if breathing issues come up again in the future.  

We also got a quick visit in with our surgeon and now we don't need to come up on Thursday to see him. Terry went home to see Sammie and get some sleep. Last night they had Leo on a horrible monitor that made the most awful noise. They couldn't keep Leo's leads on so it was constantly going off. Tonight we are just on our home monitor and so far he is stating good with few false alarms. Hopefully, Ter can pick us up in the morning.
