1/6 - Back in the Hospital

We hadn't been to the hospital for a few days so today we decided to make up for it by going twice...yes it has really been that crappy of a day.

Things started off by Leo's G-Tube coming out again about 6:30 this morning. A ball filled with water holds the tube in place in Leo's stomach and that ball was significantly deflated and we think that is the primary reason for the tube coming out this time. We made the trip to Peoria in the freezing cold, but we got lucky and the head of pediatric surgery opened up his office for us and put the tube back in instead of sending us through another long ordeal in the emergency room. Since he is an expert we didn't even have to do the x-ray to make sure it was in place. We also might not even be charged for the visit because the office was closed and head surgeons don't do their own paper work! He showed us how to put the tube back in ourselves so hopefully if it happens again we don't have to drive to Peoria. We were home around 9:30am this morning.

Around 4:00pm we got a call from Dr. Emm our pediatrician. The neonatologist we had been seeing in the NICU viewed the downloaded results from Leo's monitor and wanted us admitted back in the hospital immediately due to the results she saw.  Dr. Emm said he was confused by this because based on what we told him and him seeing Leo on Thursday he thought he seemed fine. However, Dr. Emm wanted to be on the safe side so we headed to Peoria. We were admitted into our room in the PICU about 8:30 tonight. We are frustrated because we do not really understand why we are here. We realize he has been having some oxygen desaturation, but he comes back up on his own quickly and all the doctors we saw this week seemed to think he was fine. They are basically just monitoring him overnight and getting x-rays. Hopefully they will realize he is fine and send us home in the morning. At least the PICU rooms are much more parent friendly than the NICU.  The couch actually turns into a bed, we have our own spacious bathroom, a TV, a reclining chair and a stocked snack kitchen.  Still not making up for missing another night with Sammie :(.
