2/10 - Draining Day

Mondays in the hospital are always a little  overwhelming because all the regular doctors come back and assess the weekend progress. Today I saw our surgeon who has been with us since day one, our Pulmenologist, and the PICU doctor who basically saved his life by intabating him when we arrived Wednesday night. They all had one thing to say in common.... they think a tracheotomy probably is in Leo's best interest. Terry and I are not ready to take this huge step because he was making such good progress before this happened. I think our surgeon and pulm are willing to give him a shot but the PICU doc is willing pushing for the Trach, but she has only seen him at his worst. 

Tomorrow they are doing a Bronchoscope procedure to evaluate his airway, lungs, TEF repair and vocal cords. He could come back from the operating room extihbated. We are hoping surgery and pulm see good things and are ok without the Trach.

The past two nights he has spiked 101+ fevers so they put him on IV antibiotics just incase. Today he just seemed really out of it to me. I just don't think he felt well. The pulse in his foot is now easily found and you can't tell it was blue and cold just a few days earlier. He has passed two hour long cpap trials today where they shut off the vent to simulate a nasal cannula scenario. He had good stats for both trials. 

In other crazy news, peoria had a huge water main break today and the hospital had no water for several hours. That was followed by a boil order for 36 hours. Signs everywhere say ok to was your hands if followed by hand sanitizer.
