2/6 - back in PICU

We got home from St Joe's around 11:30 on Wednesday. Through out the day he needed supplement oxygen and seemed to get worse when he got sodium chloride through his nebulizer. It seemed to kick up junk in his throat he could not cough up. About 6:00 we used up one oxygen tank and started the other one. By 9:00 it was pretty clear we would run out of oxygen by morning at the current rate. We decided to try one last nebulizer and if that didn't get him off oxygen, we were coming peoria. He got worse and was needing a high level of oxygen to maintain. By the the time we were ready to leave, he was using  so much we didn't think we could make it to Peoria withou running out so we went back to St Joe's and took an ambulance to peoria from there. At st joes they agreed he needed to go to Peoria but didn't seem overly worried about him. I rode in the ambulance and Terry followed.

When we got here they immediately seemed worried about him and called the doctor in. Before we knew it, 10 people were in the room working on him. His stats on our home monitor were okay, but they said he was working way too hard to breath. They intabated him and had a really hard time getting the tube in. They also said he is extremely dehydrated and needed blood. His blood pressure was low. We are not sure how he got so dehydrated since he is tube fed and didn't have much diarrhea or vomiting. Basically he was in very critical condition and it sounds like we will be here quite awhile. They are trying to figure  out what is making him so sick still. We are afraid part of the problem is just him not handling his secretions well.

Ter and I feel awful that we pushed for him to come home yesterday and then waited so long to take him back last night. It's really hard to see him back on the vent knowing it might have been preventable.
