1. Leo's hydration is back on track. He has a cath and peeing lots of clearish liquid.
2. He has two blood clots :(. They are both at sites where they attempted and failed to place a special type of IV. His right leg is very cold and blue due to the clot. He is being treated with a special blood thinner and they sound positive about them being resolved.
3. Before he could be placed on blood thinner, they did an ultrasound of his brain and confirmed no bleeds or new issues.
4. He is still on high support vent settings, but has progressed. Like in the NICU it will be a slow weene process.
5. He had a fever as high as 103. Last temp was 97 so looks to be under control with Tylenol.
6. Tests for viral infection were negative so they think it is bacteria.
7. He is on a lot of pain meds but every now and then opens his eyes and looks around.
Best news....We really didn't like Leo's NICU neurologist. He didn't explain things well at all and English was his 2nd language. He just poked Leo and listed off findings like he was doing a word search. I felt like he was a little Dark Vader and i wasn't comfortable asking him questions. Our last week in the NICU I asked a nurse who has a disabled child about which neuro she likes. A few other nurses and Dr Emm agreed they liked her recommendation. So even though it is out of character for me, I pushed to have his doc changed. They said the new doc would need to treat him as a new patient instead of a 3 month follow-up and the first time he would see her was May instead of is March appt. with the current doc. I followed my gut and decided the new doc was worth the wait. Today we got confirmation that the decision was a good one. Leo did a little shaking today that they didn't think was a seizure but wanted to be sure so they asked neuro to stop by. She was great. Super down to earth, easy to talk to and seemed genuinly concerned about Leo and our family. Win! She didn't think the shaking was a seizure and didn't seemed too concerned. She did however want to learn more about the blood clots. I had two previous early miscarriages and they can be caused by blood clots and Leo's brain abnormalities could be caused by a blood clot. It's kind of a wild goose chase but she is going to have Leo evaluated by a hemotologist to see if he has a clotting disorder or any other odd blood issues. I appreciate that she is already actively trying to help us :).
Ter went home for the night to be with Sammie and work tomorrow. We have literally slept about 2 hours in the last 48 so I'm not sure how he is driving or working :(
