11/17 (Sunday) - Lots of unanswered questions
On the weekends Leo sees the on-call surgeon and doctor. They are very good, but don't provide the same level of comfort as his normal docs who seem him everyday. After a 5:30am chest x-ray they concluded that his lung was foggy due to fluid in it and it was not collapsed. The surgeon suspected that from the beginning. The next challenge is finding the source of the fluid. It could be leakage from his surgery, but that should be taken care of by his chest tube. It could also be from an issue called chylothorax. This condition is often associated with surgeries involving the throat and causes babies not to be able to break down the fatty proteins in food. Instead of flowing through the normal channels the fatty fluid collects around the lungs. They are no longer giving Leo my milk and instead replaced it with a fat free formula especially made for his condition. Our understanding is that if Leo has this condition he would likely grow out of it as he heals from surgery. Tomorrow should be an eventful day of figuring out where the fluid is coming from! With so much going on last night, Terry and I both decided to stay at the hospital tonight should anything happen again. Hopefully, we have a peaceful night!
