Today Kate and I were able to give Leo a bath, the first since his surgery two weeks ago. Shortly after his bath while the nurses changed his sheets, Kate got to hold him. Even though it was only for a few minutes, it meant the world to us that at least one of us could hold him.
Leo's feeding doubled today, from 8ml to 16ml every three hours. Before his feedings were stopped, he was receiving 19mls in a continuous flow in his feeding tube. Now, Leo receives all 16mls at once to simulate a full stomach to see how he reacts. His paid medication was also decreased this afternoon. He appears to be doing well with both changes. The surgeons are targeting Friday to remove his chest tube, assuming everything goes well the next two days with his feeding schedule and if there are no more indicators of chylothorax.
Leo had an initial exam from a neurologist late yesterday and like Kate posted , several indicators were present of possible nerve damage. We won't know for days, weeks, months, or possibly years of what that truly means. Right now we are taking one day and a time and focusing on reaching Leo's next milestone.
Kate and I will most likely not post a blog entry tomorrow unless we have significant news to share. We have a busy day as we both try to be with Sammie at home for a Thanksgiving Dinner and cover shifts at the hospital. A big thanks to Uncle Dave and Grandma Helen for making everything, I am sure it will be delicious.
As we give thanks tomorrow, we can't express how truly thankful we are for all of you. You have no idea how much we appreciate all of your love and support. We hope each and everyone one of you have a Happy Thanksgiving.
